Will Wynn Had a Few Words to Say

Last month, during a busy traffic morning, a large truck was blocking traffic on 5th street in downtown Austin. Our Mayor, Will Wynn, happened to be apart of the traffic that was being blocked by the large truck after taking his kids to school. He managed to park his car at is house
and on while walking to city hall he stopped at the construction site where the truck was blocking traffic. He "Spewed profanity" for awhile at the driver. The mayor was yelling threats to the workers saying that the better have permits, and be insured. He also did not let anyone leave until a police officer arrived at the scene. He later told reporters that he was mad at the fact that thousands of motorist were effected by the blockage. Will Wynn as been supporting a rail system to help reduce traffic downtown. He is very passionate on this issue which could be reasoning for the outrage. a reporter interviewed some of the workers that were there, they said he sounded very threatening. The super attendant of the site called 311,the non-emergency number, and told them what was happening, they later reported that other calls were made to complain about the traffic hold up. All that came of the incident was that the driver received a warning from the police not to block traffic like that again. Will Wynn later proposed an ordinance that would restrict large trucks to drive in certain areas downtown in certain busy traffic time to reduce congestion. He also apologized to the drivers who were backed up by the truck.

my response to "proposition 15"

The author of this article did a good job stating her opinion, but it would help her article if she mentioned some of the negative things about the proposal. It would give the reader a better understanding of the issue and could compare the "good" and "bad" of the proposal, which they could then decide whether to agree with the authors opinion or take one of their own. I tend to disagree with the author about the subject. Yes, no one likes paying taxes, like rent, but adding 3 billion on top of the taxes we already pay is a lot worse. Having family and friends who have suffered from cancer makes me want a cure to be found soon, and I know it takes a lot of money to research to find one. I still feel like the money is too much to ask of tax payers and should try to be found another way. I also think that they don't try everything to find a cure. I know there have been very promising results from alternative medicines but because that doesn't bring money to the pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, they don't pursue that path. The are things they could to to find a cure without having to raise 3 billion dollars in tax money, they just don't want to.

my response to "Death Penalty: Justice or Murder?"

I thought Julianne's article was very well written, and it makes you consider how our government deals out judgement. Although I feel that there is a good reason for the death penalty, i don't think the government does a good job of using it. Knowing before committing a murder that you will be killed if caught would definitely detour some people from committing a crime, which would be saving lives. Also if someone i personally loved was murdered, i wouldn't want the person who killed them to live or get out of prison. Unfortunately our system allows that to happen, which she mentioned that the government doesn't fairly give out the death penalty, some murderers don't even get the death penalty. if our government finds a way to make the death penalty effective and consistent i think it could serve as a good judgement for people who commit murders, but as it is now a different judgement could be more productive.
